The name is an irony and often times puts people into very cruddy locations within ambushes, such as directly in front of a madruger's guns as it literally blazes the team down because smart deploy is to stuipid to deploy anywhere else. Often times smart deploy will get stuck on one spot, usually the most horrid spot for the team to be deployed to, and one side will get a great advantage because they can surround and make sure that the team can not move at all. For these reasons and more I wants smart deploy removed from the game. What I would like instead is as follows, I will number off each thing I would want in the new system.
1. Players can choose 1 of 3 randomly available points, this way not only can you prevent camping by the enemy team, the player gets to decide where to spawn and can least make a cursory glance that the spot isn't right next to a tank.
2. The spots for deployment change based upon how the team is doing, like it currently does, however, now you have 3 spots that the player can choose where to go, rather then the game/ai.
3. For the spots to have a sense if they are being overrun or a bad location to spawn to, by being if the enemy has more ISK value then your team within the area radius, this spot becomes marked off and a new spot must be selected.
I feel that this system would be tons better, would not allow for camping and continued massacre, and would provide a better experience for all within Ambush/Ambush OMS. Ideas/suggestions are most welcome, also if you agree with this forum make sure to give it an up vote. |

What he said sounds both Like a great idea and nothing could go wrong with it Smart deploy burn burn
Well, I've been on both sides of the equation, where I've been the one to just sit there and wonder why they can't spawn anywhere else as my team gets free kills. It doesn't matter what suit the enemy team spawns in even protos die to fast to matter. It made the match unfun for me personally because I like having a good challenge I do not like just shooting people when they have no chance at all.
For one match it got so bad, that people started planting RE's where they knew the game would spawn us, so yes I really do want the smart deploy taken out of the game, and I hope other people do too. |

Yeah it was a rather funny, sad, and pathetic moment all wrapped up in one. |

Went to another few matches of ambush last night, where the smart deploy famously failed, the comments I heard from people were quite....colorful. |

Smart deploy initially tries to spawn you near a good sized group of allies but if there are none then it attempts to spawn you away from the enemy. Just a little patience and your entire team can spawn on the opposite side of the map. Even if there are a buttload of friendly uplinks in dumb spots the smart deploy will ignore them to spawn you somewhere safe. The only real downside is nobody is patient enough to wait for the others to die out and therefore they spawn into more bullets.
~Sigh. But I suppose if the community won't change (big shock) CCP has to work harder to change there game instead.
Okay, but the simple fact still is, that it is a broken system and does not work. People want to get back into the action fast, how many groups actually have the patience to go "hmmmm...let me wait 30 seconds, then try again" Unless they have already given up and are going to let the other team just win.
What I am suggesting is that I do my recon work of an area, before I drop down, if I spawn next to a tank, that's my own dumbass fault, however, when the computer does it, it does it to nearly the entire team, usually costing round 20-30 clones or higher. I want to be able to have more control where I spawn if no good uplink locations are available. I want enough people to upvote the original comment so that CCP gets the message and actually does something to help out the really pitiful state of ambush. The 2 tanks only per side for ambush was a great thing, but still not enough, it is still not fixing the core issue of what is wrong with ambush. |

Thinks have gotten slightly better with only 2 tanks being allowed per side at a time in ambush, but overall it still sucks. Was really bad for when you spawned in with just 80% health and no skill levels so you were basically just lunch for everyone else. |

Django Quik wrote:How about CCP just make smart deploy actually smart - only ever deploy you over 100m away from any enemy; if there are no such points available because the enemy are so spread across the entire map (highly unlikely to ever occur), find the furthest point from every enemy player balanced with the lowest enemy population density.
How [i]smartp/i] deploy works at the moment - deploy next to the most other players on your team/squad, automatically bunching everyone together for an easy enemy killzone that is impossible to escape.
Yeah, they made a change like that once...they changed the name of auto deploy to smart deploy, cause you know if you call something smart it must be true. So instead of fixing the problem they could rename it again to Super Smart Deploy! Just think about it, what a wonderful thing, no one would ever dare question it again cause it is super smart. It would just be because your team angered the ai is why you all got put into that killzone instead of it just not being smart enough to put you someplace safe.
You do have a good idea though about the 100m thing, though if the 100m in any way is predictable it just changes how they farm, such as they might do a tripod method so that the ai just keeps placing people down without ever changing spots, some of the ambush maps I think are small enough for that. |

Not always possible, the teams that do camping like a job have dedicated hunters for all uplinks and at times even well placed uplinks can become deathtraps. |

CELESTA AUNGM wrote: This is actually a repeat discussion, and sorry fellas, the conclusion/solution is the same. Skirmish matches seem to lend themselves well to GRADUALLY learning the focus of team-coordination and team-planning. Domination matches are almost as effective when players CHOOSE teamwork, or when they FREE-FOR-ALL throw themselves as lone wolves at the objective and last merc with her bloody hand on the null-button saves the district! But "AMBUSH" matches have always appeared to be something we jump into ASSUMING it's every merc for himself and slughter as much as your two hands can fill. It always seems to be played like a MOSTLY mixed bag of lone fighters. Ambush would be played and won better if you team-planned a little right before the match. Simply cry out, Milla is the uplink master--no one use smart deploy, use Milla's uplinks"... Celesta's taking a dropship to sack and hack the red CRU-everyone get in the dropship and help!" ....But. I get the impression players DON'T want the Ambush venue for team-responsibilities and attachments----ya'll want it for rapid runnin-n-gunnin. We can't have Ambush as Free-For-All, every merc for herself, ...and then ask for A-I to do some kind of SMART-spawning for us. If we play the Ambush thought-free and team-free, then we should be "dumped" on battlefield thought-free and have no probs. 'SMART' is what CCP kinda keeps trying to reward and encourage us to do.... not get as a service from the game. That's why Aderak's and Lithkul's comments are the onew that own this thread. I think Aderak's comment gives you the keys to the car: DON'T use Smart-Deploy, EVER! Use players' uplink equipment---your chances with a manual uplink are better bet than "smart-deploy". And Lithkul's comment escorts you and gets you onto the freeway: Hook up with the best equipment users you can find (like in EVE, that only comes from exposure and chance meetings during skirmish matches, etc.) SOCIALIZE. Often you THINK you're dropping uplinks in clever places, and you get sadly notified that you've only got level-2 cleverness, in a world full of level-7cleverness.
I'm going to point out a few things in your post, you mention about communication where we still have the problem with mics not always working. Possibly we need a system of quick talk functions like what Tribes 2 had and many other games where you hit keys and a quick commonly used message is uttered so people know what you are doing. Communication is key in being able to plan and offensive or defensive in any scenario. Perhaphs teams could see shadow markers of what other squad leaders are focussing on so they would know where to focus efforts as well? Either way communication methods need to be worked on in the game and would eliviate most of the issues we currently have.
Ambush is played free for all most times, because the objective is to kill the enemy team and a lot of people that play ambush are typically from other games where the first thought going into their heads is. "Well I can charge in alone and kill people" aka Call of Duty, and you can only hope these people learn how to play. However, the other problem comes in where smart deploy, deploys people into "coffins" without considering because the team is close and they can't escape. I feel that if ambush was played in Factional Warfare new tactics might be used and improved upon.
I personally like Ambush OMS more then regular ambush because it gives additional objectives to people and changes the landscape so that people are less laser focussed on just running in and dying. Though I do believe if people were given thirty seconds to halfway organize what they are going to do in ambush things might be drastically different then how they currently are.
